GRANGE CRESCENT RECEIVE CQC PRAISE

NETHER Edge residential care home Grange Crescent has won the praise of the Care Quality Commission.

Inspectors from the CQC - the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England - visited Grange Crescent, one of ten sites operated across Sheffield by not for profit organisation Sheffcare.

And they rated services good in all five main areas - safety, efficiency, caring, responsiveness and leadership. “Without exception people who used the service and their relatives told us they or their family member felt safe living at Grange Crescent,” the inspectors said in their report.

Residents’ comments included: “The staff look after me so well and I feel safe all of the time.” Another told the inspectors:  "I have been struggling at home for months now but at last I am in a safe place.”

The inspectors found people's safety was promoted with systems in place reducing the risk of harm and potential abuse. All staff had received up to date safeguarding training and had a good understanding of the procedures to follow if they had any concerns.

Care plans and risk assessments were in place which gave important information to staff so that care and support was provided to people in a consistent way and any risks had been identified and mitigated. A robust recruitment and selection process was also in place that ensured staff employed had the right skills to support people in the way they needed and preferred.

The inspectors also praised the home’s registered manager, saying that residents, families and staff all without exception spoke of her positively. They added: “We saw the manager promote a friendly, positive and open culture and she spent time talking to people living at the home and their relatives and had a good rapport with them.”

Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black commented: “We always welcome the CQC into all our homes, confident that they will be impressed with what they find there.

“The comfort and safety of our residents is central to all our services and this latest report for Grange Crescent demonstrates quite clearly that we are reaching a high standard in every area required. A report of this standard really is a tribute to every member of the Sheffcare team and proves again that they all go the extra mile to ensure of residents and their families are happy with the care and support they receive.”
