Care worker Solonge Vickers has been named the Sheffcare Employee of the year.

Sheffcare is the not for profit organisation that operates a chain of ten residential care homes across Sheffield.

And at a special celebration ceremony at the city’s Royal Victoria Holiday Inn, Sheffcare management and trustees paid tribute to all the staff who ensure the organisation’s homes receive consistently high praise from Care Quality Commission inspectors.

Solonge is a care worker at Sheffcare’s Cotleigh home in Hackenthorpe and she was nominated in recognition of her tireless dedication to residents.

“Solonge is liked by her fellow workers and respected by relatives and residents alike,” said Cotleigh manager Rod MacAskill.

"She pays meticulous attention to detail and you will not find a resident with a hair out of place when Solonge has been on duty and for as long as I can remember she has worked all the Christmas bank holidays and has never complained.”

The runner up was team leader Dee Wilson who works at Sheffcare’s Springwood home on Herries Road.

Home manager Anita Bland said: “Dee has worked extremely hard, giving over 100 per cent commitment to residents’ well being and ensuring a very high quality of life is paramount for all who live at Springwood.

“Nothing is too much for her to do, she shops for everyone and works endlessly in her own time making sure everything in her power is completed.”

Sheffcare chief executive Belinda Black commented: “Our annual awards really do reflect the fact that every Sheffcare team member is fully committed to doing the very best they can for all our residents.

“Solonge and Dee are both fine examples of the sort of people we pride ourselves on employing as an organisation.

“They represent the very best of Sheffcare but we thoroughly appreciate the hard work and dedication of all our staff every day of the year.”
